Shaw Main Streets held its fourth annual neighborhoodwide cleanup and greenup event in central Shaw. This year's event included planting cherry trees and perennial and annual flowering plants, picking up trash, and removing and painting over graffiti. Shaw Main Streets Executive Director Alexander M Padro organized the event. Volunteers from the DC Green Team, various neighborhood organizations and neighbors from Rhode Island Avenue to Gallery Place took part in the event to keep Shaw looking its best. A lot of great work was accomplished; it was surely made easier by neighbors and friends working together.
Coincidently, Hemingway Memorial Church leaders (bottom left) replaced old signage with new and uncovered a historical marker in the process (see slide 6) ...
